Leyna von Brentwood
Adoption Pending

Leyna von Brentwood is a dark, 12 month old beauty. She is a medium sized German Shepherd and will probably be around 65 pounds when she fills out. Leyna is in a foster home with another female, they race around the house and play, both girls try to go out the doggy door together. She was so scared when she was rescued but it has been wonderful to see her blossom into a confident and out going girl. Leyna is in a great foster home and has gotten to do many enriching things.

Foster mom update:

Good in the house, 'cept when she tries to get away with sitting on the couch. When she's reprimanded, she runs to her blanket and doesn't come out till she's called. She had a good time chasing squirrels a few times in the mountains; then she came right back. Squirrels are about the same size as cats. When we stopped to visit my friend and his new dog, my friend's 5-year-old daughter was also there. Leyna was just fine with the little girl petting her; whereas over the weekend, she first needed to be "introduced" to people through a hand-shake with me. As in, she was resistant to approach anyone until I took the person's hand and held it down to her, then she came over, wagged her tail and let the person pet her.She became possessive of the Hut right away, and made her objections loud and clear about anyone else coming in. I'm training her the way I did with Marta, by praising her for the "stranger alert," stroking her head and saying, "Good girl, enough," over and over. (With the stress on Enough.) I haven't noticed digging or chewing. She loves bones, but will not share, so I had to put them up.She desperately wants to please. She comes when I call her. She sits. She has no food aggression with me. I can take her bowl or bone away from her. In the mountains, she followed right behind me most of the time and wouldn't let me out of her sight for very long. It took about two weeks for the two dogs to become pals. They slept on the same blanket for the first time up in the Hut. I never thought I'd see that. She is loving. She loves to be hugged. She kisses also. She loves attention; and it clearly makes her very happy when I pat her head on my way by (wherever she is the house). Whomever adopts her MUST have her be a big part of his/her life.
